summer vacation + sketchbook = fun.

2017_07_RAWScans5is there anything better than having lots of time, a beach, sun & wind & waves… and a sketchbook on the side? we were on vacation at beautiful gargano, italy. here are some beachy impressions:

2017_07_RAWScans23the trabucco right around the corner (here is an explanation of what they are and what they are used for. all i know is that they’re used for fishing and that they look beautiful).

back from summer travelling.

2017_07_fringetan

aah… holidays… ❤ i just got back from travelling italy for 3 weeks and i’m just getting back into my daily routines in berlin. i spent so much time outside – even i got a tan, hurray! (well, except for those parts of my face at the top of my bangs…)

2017_07_RAWScans46

c. & i were travelling a big round through italy in a vw california (= our vehicle & accommodation). first we travelled via the austrian alps to venice (for the art biennale); then we spent a week at the beaches and in the forest of the beautiful gargano at the west coast and last but not least we were in rome for some days before returning to germany via a short stop at lake como in lombardia.

P1100653_

we saw soo much – different landscapes, the ocean, plants, animals, people, art… my sketchbook almost filled itself just on this one trip – and you’re going to see some of it on this blog in the next couple of weeks 🙂

we stayed at campsites (wild camping is not legal in italy) and we somehow managed to always have a great view from our bus. this is my little collection:

2017_07_RAWScans25view (from the bus) 1: the alps at stubaital, austria.

2017_07_RAWScans2view 2: a big old house right next to the campsite at lido di venezia.

2017_07_RAWScans6view 3: the entrance of molinella camping, near vieste, gargano.

2017_07_RAWScans36view 4: gnarled & shady trees at the campsite outside of rome.

2017_07_RAWScans44view 5: sitting on the terrace of the very lovely bed&breakfast albergo sala in valbrona, lombardia, where we spent the last night before returning home.

2017_07_RAWScans45

about 3.300 km of driving through sun, wind, sand, mountains, forests, serpentines, also roman traffic – and an invasion of ants (i will get to this some other time)… the bus has seen a lot recently! so that carwash at the end was well deserved. thanks for taking us around, bus!

in a bus to munich.

about a month ago i was in munich, travelling there by bus (8 hrs).

P1090611_here’s what i saw on the way to munich: my three lovely colleagues eva, juliane & wiebke around me on the signature blue & green seats.

P1090614_a guy eating his burger right out of the paper and our stop at mcdo (there was no alternative where the bus driver took his break).

P1090624_and on our way back: these guys in front of us (it’s a double decker bus), one is playing some strategic game on his laptop or complaining loudly about his company’s ties to north corea (wonder which company he was talking about?!). the other is talking on his phone or snorring. the window was actually covered in dead flies & bugs.

in munich itself i didn’t really dare to draw that much. i was busy working at a comicfestival. so i only drew these three pictures:

P1090616_(1) a little dog that had appeared in my dream. don’t let it fool you – it looks really cute, but it’s actually a very well-made robot meant to spy on us and collect all our information (that can be used against us). just like a smartphone, but more friendly.

P1090618_(2) this old bus i really liked in a cosy coffee break.

P1090620_(3) this strange building right next to the wiesn.

i like munich a lot. i prefer travelling by train.

a visit to the botanical garden.

my friend wiebke and i spent a sunday at the botanical garden in berlin recently. these are some of the things i saw there:

Gekritzel10finally a plant pretending to be some kind of flower between armies of cactei: strelitzia.

Gekritzel11just as i thought “this plant looks like an elephant’s foot”, i read its name. that’s exactly what it’s called…

Gekritzel14_hurray for quails! ❤ ❤ ❤

Gekritzel12i’m going to move in here. watch plants & quails 24/7. bye.

just after christmas.

i can’t believe it’s already thursday! december 26th being a monday, but feeling like a sunday got me all confused. so here comes my wednesday’s blog on a thursday.

kathrin_chris_vitus_blog

on sunday we visited my new nephew in cologne. welcome to the world, little vi.! very well done, lovely ka. & ch.!

p1080794_

my sister a. and little k. gave me this sketchbook for christmas which seems to work perfectly with my pentel brushpen…

p1080788_

here’s our very first christmas tree ever. it’s small and ugly and we love it very much.

p1080801_

pentel & sketchbook also kind of worked in a moving car. (no straight lines possible? no straight lines needed…) this is c.’s sister v. driving us from darmstadt to cologne.

p1080806_

the day after c. & i travelled to rostock for a day and the battery on my computer was flat for the last hour of the journey, so i had to stop working. i was able to watch c. reading lessing instead (in the background: mecklenburg vorpommén). no pentel and a different sketchbook, biro (a cheap one) & watercolours.

p1080811

on our way back to darmstadt we saw a very cute girl with her parents (her dad is not in the picture, the old man just happened to sit next to them). they had lots of luggage and they all looked content but very tired. they must have been on the way home from some very long journey. the girl fell asleep as soon as the train started moving. arriving at their home station, her parents had to carry her on top of all the luggage.

a new cover for jesus christ superstar.

p1080688_

i feel very lucky to have some of the best friends in the world. two of them did not only send me this lovely christmas card via post, they also visited me at home the very same day.

since it was the last weekend before christmas we decided to watch “jesus christ superstar” (it’s a musical, but you have to watch the only good movie version from 1973). and we had a great time drinking wine and eating hosts crisps…

i was happy to share this brilliant piece of movie & cultural history with anne & david. but afterwards we realized that the cover of the dvd does not work at all selling the movie…

p1080725lame.

you wouldn’t watch it and miss out on some great music and brilliant characters in an interesting setting. and in case you’re looking for a christian movie you wouldn’t necessarily approve of this depiction of the saga either. jesus seems rather clueless and the true protagonist is judas, but he doesn’t even appear on the back cover. so, which target group are you doing a favor here?

p1080719_

to cut the long story short, we drew a new cover that does the movie better justice.

p1080721_

so far this cover is only available in my personal dvd collection. but if you like, you can download the cover in high resolution via this link (file size: 15 MB), print and cut it out and use it for your own dvd.

you’re welcome.

season’s greetings everybody! enjoy your holidays!
