just practicing how to draw some of these motorized, square but at the same time kind of round and often moving objects that you see all around. also: makes you appreciate traffic jams.

perusing art galleries, collecting impressions
i like to “walk-draw” sometimes… to walk around, look at stuff and collect impressions very quickly, often with only little stops. the best place to do this is museums, natural history museums, art galleries, exhibitions of any kind. here are some sketches i made a couple of weeks ago:
Galerija umjetnina, Split (modern collection)
Galerija umjetnina, Split (photography)
Moderna Galerija, Zagreb

visiting my childhood home
my parents still live in the house i grew up in. it’s an old townhouse with a beautiful garden.
a very special part of the garden is this shadbush (amelanchier / felsenbirne) in our yard. i think it got planted quite quickly after my parents moved in – it’s about as old as i am. this tree/bush is surrounded by a bed full of different herbs (lavender, marjoram, tarragon…) and it has evolved into a wonderful playground for songbirds. when they’re small they can hop between the twigs and the roof of the shed and learn how to fly.
travelling. sketching. part III (animals)
we saw lots of animals on our journey, for example the only dove i ever liked (it’s a turtledove and he/she lives on the campsite in labadusa / trogir, croatia):
but most of the animals i drew live in the zoo in zagreb:
i don’t know what kind of animal this is, but it had a red neck. and there were lots of crows around (everywhere).
a sleeping lama behind a shed and some capybaras i liked… the german word is “wasserschwein” (water pig) by the way.
the ant eater was sleeping as well (i love him!).
this grasshopper looked as if it was having a chill’ time in a jacuzzi (it was sitting in a bowl)..
just a collection of really cool birds.
i don’t know what kind of reptile this was, but it sat on a branch as if it was serving at a bar.
this is an elefant shrew (lat. elephantulus). a mouse that looks like it’s related to elephants. do i need to say more?
i tried to draw the lemurs but they didn’t like it and just decided to hide pretty quickly in the darkest corners possible. they were still pretty amazing!
